Chapter Eleven

Ceejay was still sulking the next morning. To add to her aggravation, her uncle had agreed to water a small field for a client every day that week. She’d circled over the golf course to line up with the field that she needed to water when her eyes caught a familiar figure swinging a club at the adjacent golf course.

“Gmph . . . hard at work, I see,” she mumbled to herself as a giggle escaped her lips at the thought that flashed through her mind. Without giving it further contemplation, she brought the light twin around once more and pushed the nose over.

“Sorry, Mr. Shaffer, but it’s your own fault for keeping company with that leech.” At one hundred feet and full flaps, she giggled and pulled the release, pulling back hard on the stick. “Bombs away, boys! Ha-ha-ha!”

The satisfying roar of a thousand gallons of water ripping through the air made the two small targets jerk around and cower as the sky erupted into a white squall. Caught out like sail cats, they tried to flee the onslaught but there was nowhere to run. Ceejay shrieked hysterically as she applied full power and yanked the stick back between her legs. She brought the plane around again and laughed when she found them completely drenched. They stared at the plane with astonishment on their faces, noticeable even from that distance.

Ceejay laughed so hard that she veered the plane sharply to the right and cursed as she righted it. Looking back, she burst out laughing again when she saw Nolan Shaffer, Colt’s friend, waving his fist at her. Colt just stood staring after the plane.

“Gah . . . indulge in that, Master Dom!”

She was still laughing when she landed the plane ten minutes later to refill. Since she’d dumped some of the water in the tank on the two men, she couldn’t finish her task.

Ceejay quickly ran into the office to fetch a bottle of cold water while the plane refilled. When she came out of the kitchen, she ran into a hard wall of muscle. Very, very wet muscle. She lifted her eyes slowly and bit her lip to hold back the giggle that threatened to escape.

She cleared her throat and took a step back, only to be yanked forward once again into his strong chest. Colt leaned down and pressed his face into hers.

“Did you for even one second believe I would let that slide?”

“I . . . uhm . . . I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“If there’s one thing I hate, it’s a woman lying to me.”

Ceejay realized he was furious and cleared her throat, trying to pacify him at least.

“Look, I’ve been watering the Jones’ small vegetable field. Were you in the vicinity that some of the wind spray caught you?”

“No, Ceejay, as you’re well aware, I was right under the dump. The dump you dropped on me. And I’m going to take every drop of water rolling down my back from your hide!”

Without further ado, he picked her up and carried her into the office.
